Native Doctors Were Detained By Anambra Investigations.

According to the administration of Anambra State, native doctors who are accused of participating in fraudulent and illegal activities—specifically, “get-rich-quick” schemes linked to “Okeite” practices—are still being detained and being investigated.

Law Mefor, the Information Commissioner, said in a statement on Tuesday that security forces are looking into the people who are being held in depth and that any found guilty will be held accountable.

Mefor pointed out that the action is in line with the 2025 Homeland Law, which aims to control the use of traditional medicine and purge the state of illegal elements. He explained that although the government records practitioners of traditional medicine, it does not register or grant them practicing credentials.

The commissioner also stated that other important development projects were approved at Monday’s State Executive Council meeting, which confirmed the decision.

“The government of Anambra State is dedicated to ensuring that traditional medicine is sanitized and that those who defraud innocent citizens are held accountable.” The statement said, “Extensive investigations are underway, and those found culpable will face the appropriate charges.”

The state government authorized the Nzam headquarters road in Anambra West Local Government Area, which will cost N801.5 million to build, as part of its larger development strategy. Kanubeen Construction Ltd. has been given the project, which should be finished in six weeks.

The council also authorized N48.5 million to develop a laboratory facility, staff offices, and an examination hall at Urban Boys Secondary School in Fegge, Onitsha South LGA. Harriets Millennium Estate Nigeria Ltd was given the contract.

Additionally, pleas from several communities to take control of their community-built secondary schools were granted by the government. Their teachers will be included into the state’s teaching workforce, and these schools will be renovated to match public school standards.

Mefor added that towns recording non-indigenes were directed by the State Executive Council to do so without charging them, stressing that the procedure should be viewed as a social duty rather than a business endeavor.
