A 20-year-old laborer, Abdulrahub Yusuf, was on Thursday sentenced to eight months imprisonment for stealing cooking pots and a gas cylinder.
Yusuf pleaded guilty to housebreaking and theft and begged for leniency.
The Judge, Malam Sulyman Ola, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N30,000 and warned him to be a law-abiding citizen.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr. Olaonipekun Babajide, told the court that the complainant, Rita Iliya reported the matter at the Galadima Police station on Feb. 11.
Babajide said the convict broke into the complainant’s house in Galadima, Abuja, and stole her cooking pots and gas cylinder worth N7, 000.
He said that during police interrogation and investigation, the convict confessed to the crime and the pots were recovered from him but all effort made to recover the cylinder failed.
The offense, the prosecutor said, contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
