Oluwatosin Ajayi, the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), said that Nigerians should defend themselves. In response, Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), responded.
According to Ejimakor, Kanu was arrested and is facing charges for saying the same thing that Ajayi did.
He revealed that Kanu’s exact statement resulted in IPOB being banned and Igbos being targeted as terrorists.
The DSS DG stated on Tuesday that Nigerians must be in charge of their own security because the country’s military, police, and intelligence services are unable to defend every community against terrorist assaults.
The DSS DG mentioned other instances in Bauchi State where local populations repelled Boko Haram militants without waiting for security troops while speaking at a public event.
Ajayi stressed that communities must be the “first line of defense” against terrorists and other criminals, and he asked Nigerians to reconsider their approach to self-defense.
In response, Ejimakor wrote on X: “Defend yourselves” is exactly what Mazzi Nnamadi Kanutu said, but it was misrepresented to support his remarkable performance and accuse him of “incitement of violence.”
It’s also the same thing that caused IPOB to be banned and young Igbo people to be persecuted for being terrorists.
