High-rising act, Bella Shmurda, is being taken to court by his current record label, One World Global Records, for allegations concerning a suspected breach of contract and copyright infringement.
Claims surfaced from the label, that the artiste has been continuously involved in the release and distribution of songs and videos without their knowledge, which goes against the initial contract agreement.
It is also mentioned that the artiste proceeded to sign to another record label, Dagbana Republik, which is not affiliated with his current label. He is also being accused of collaborating and working with other acts without the consent of his label.
The artiste was also accused of not providing the necessary earnings and royalties generated from his songs, which were released under the label.
In the Lawsuit, it is stated that: The Label claims ownership of the trademark to the name, “Bella Shmurda” as well as the copyright in all the musical works and recordings released under or in connection with the name.
The label requests the Order of Court restraining the Singer from laying claim to the name and performing the musical works released under or in connection with the name. The Label also requests the sum of N200 million damages for the Singer’s breach of the Contract.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Label, Prince Nkem Onyenwenu, stated that, all efforts to get Bella Shmurda to listen to the voice of reason have proved futile.
He furthered his statement, by saying that the Label would not hesitate to file similar actions against any person or organisations who aids, assists or partakes in the violation of its trademark in the name and its copyright in the musical works released under the name.
