After Portable declined Darlington’s invitation to appear at his next event, the two singers’ antagonism grew more intense.
A “celebrity boxing match” is planned to resolve the long-running animosity between Nigerian singers Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, and Darlington Okoye, also known as Speed Darlington.
The much-anticipated matchup is set for April 18 at Lagos’s Balmoral Convention Centre on Victoria Island.
He rejected any friendship with Darlington and accused him of leveraging his name to advance in his career.
Darlington “regretted” making the contact, wondering why he had descended to speak with Portable, particularly after being insulted. When Portable challenged him to a fight, the feud grew more intense.
Mygamerush, the event organizer, announced the bout on Instagram on Tuesday, saying, “You asked, and now it is here,” in response to the tremendous public demand. For ultimate street dominance, two street kings compete.
At 6 p.m., the bout, “Chaos in the Ring: Battle for Glory,” will take place.
Darlington posted a video of himself working out in a boxing ring shortly after Speed was formally announced, demonstrating his readiness for the bout.
In the meantime, Portable showed his desire to take part by reposting some of the battle announcements. The musician shared videos of himself practicing and in a boxing ring prior to the announcement.
Background
The “Zazuu Zeh” crooner made fun of Darlington’s financial ability and accused him of using his name to promote the event after Darlington invited him on March 13. “Unlike you, I’m not a tout. “I am a celebrity, a hero, and a superstar,” said Portable.
The conflict escalated as the “Baby Oil” singer claimed that Portable had insulted his mother. When Darlington was seen in a coffin store on Thursday, apparently buying a casket as a symbolic gesture to Portable, the controversy took an odd turn.
He was spotted asking for a “shiny” coffin, which heightened rumors that the two artists were at odds. Portable, meanwhile, bragged that he would beat Darlington in the same way that he had defeated actor Charles Okocha.
The two have previously gotten into arguments and debates online.
After Portable was arrested by the Lagos State Police in May 2024 for allegedly owing money on a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon, Speed Darlington made fun of him.
Legal issues arose after Portable was accused of paying ₦13 million instead of ₦27 million for the car. Darlington called him a “fake life” artist and made fun of him for trying to jump over a fence to avoid being arrested.
Darlington separated from Portable shortly after, cautioning fans not to draw comparisons between the two. “I am a celebrity. “Portable is not a star,” he stated, emphasizing his global reach.
This next encounter is guaranteed to garner a lot of interest from both fans and the media because both artists, who are well-known for their controversial identities, are expected to bring their fantastical avatars to the ring.
