The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s government for using the Renewed Hope Agenda to promote good government. Wike talked about how the government is committed to keeping its promises and meeting the needs of the Nigerian people while he was in Abuja to check on the progress of building the five-kilometer Saburi-Dei Dei road. He stressed how important these steps were for giving people across the country hope again.
Wike said that good government is a broad concept that includes building things, being open and responsible, keeping people safe, and making sure everyone has access to good health care and education. He said that these ideas are reflected in the work of the administration in the FCT, using the current infrastructure projects to show what the government is doing. He said that the road project between Saburi and Dei Dei, which should be finished in December, would make people’s lives in these areas a lot better. Lubrik Construction Company, which was given the job earlier this year, is in charge of the project.
The minister was happy with how well the event was received by locals, which shows how important public support is to the government’s work. Wike says that the fact that people in the FCT are happy with the government’s work is a clear sign that the administration is on the right track.
Wike also gave a report on the 17-kilometer Life Camp-Dei Dei road project, which is separate from the Saburi-Dei Dei road project. He said that the process for getting people to work on this project was almost finished, with 80% of the steps already done. It is now up to the FCT Administration to get the “certificate of no objection” from the Bureau of Public Procurement. After getting this certificate, the project will be sent to the Federal Executive Council for final approval. Once approved, building can begin.
Wike also talked about the problem of begging in the FCT, pointing out that it is getting worse in public places in Abuja. He said that a group of security officers had been working nonstop to get rid of beggars from the streets, especially those who were taking advantage of people by pretending to beg while they were actually committing crimes. Wike said that the government was determined to bring order back to Abuja’s streets and make them safer and better managed, even though it would be hard. He was sure that the government would be able to solve the problem, even though it would be hard.
Wike used these projects to show the bigger picture of the government’s plans for the FCT and the whole country. The Renewed Hope Agenda is based on three main areas: infrastructure, security, and public welfare. The Minister’s words showed that he had a lot of faith in Nigeria’s ongoing transformation, which would lead to real changes that would make Nigerians’ lives better in the short and long run.
