One of the sons of billionaire businessman Chief Razaq Okoya, Raheem Okoya, has expressed regret to Nigerians for his role in a widely shared video that showed the misuse of naira notes.
His brother Wahab and an unnamed police officer were also shown in the video, which caused a lot of outrage and resulted in the officer’s arrest.
Raheem added, “My actions were not to cause any trouble or harm to the Nigerian people,” in a statement released on Friday via X. I had good, innocent intentions. I had no idea of setting off such a commotion, therefore I humbly ask for your pardon and assistance in this matter. I didn’t quite understand the repercussions of what I had done.
The officer in the video is currently facing disciplinary action, according to confirmation from the Nigeria Police Force.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, revealed on Friday through his X Twitter that the officer was arrested for breaking police ethics.
“The police officer who was seen mistreating naira in the recently circulated video that the sons of Lagos businessman Chief Okoya posted has been identified and placed under disciplinary arrest.
“The police officer’s involvement has been denounced as immoral. We will make every effort to preserve the police’s integrity, reputation, and fundamental principles,” Adejobi stated.
In order to promote Raheem’s new song, “Credit Alert,” the video, which went viral last week, has Wahab and Raheem wearing agbada attire and showing off piles of fresh N1000 notes.
As the brothers dance and hurl the naira notes into the air, a uniformed mobile police officer is seen carrying bundles of cash.
A public outcry followed, with many Nigerians voicing doubt that the sons of a well-known person would be subject to any consequences.
Although the officer is facing disciplinary action, no additional information regarding potential sanctions for the billionaire’s sons has been made public.
