Fabio Cannavaro, the 2006 World Cup winner and former captain of Italy, claims he declined a position with the Super Eagles in order to consider offers from clubs in the Italian Serie A and other European leagues.
Cannavaro was one of the applicants that the Nigeria Football Federation examined in an attempt to fill the position in time for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Rwanda and the Benin Republic.
“I want to wait until December for Serie A and European clubs, but I had offers from Iranian clubs and the Nigerian national team.” I might start traveling again after that,” Cannavaro said to La Gazzetta.
Ahead of the qualifiers, the team is currently being coached by NFF Technical Director Augustine Eguavoen, who is assisting the managers of two Nigeria Premier Football League teams, Daniel Ogunmodede (Remo Stars) and Fidelis Ilechukwu (Enugu Rangers).
Olatunji Baruwa, a goalie trainer, Tomaz Zorec, a fitness trainer from Slovenia, and Eboboritse Uwejamomere, a match analyzer, all join them in Uyo.
Following their Saturday match at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo against the Benin Republic, the team will leave for Kigali on Sunday in preparation for their Tuesday match at Amahoro Stadium against the Rwandan Amavubi (Bees).dello Sport during a conversation.
The NFF finally named German coach Bruno Labbadia as the new head coach of the Super Eagles, but the 56-year-old subsequently declined the opportunity due to strict German tax restrictions.
