Rep. Adewunmi Onanuga, The Deputy Chief Whip, Passed Away.

The lower legislative chamber’s spokesperson, Akin Rotimi, made the announcement of Onanuga’s death in a statement on Wednesday evening.

According to Rotimi, Onanuga, who served as the federal representative for Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North in Ogun State, passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

The announcement says, “The House of Representatives announces with profound sorrow the passing of Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga.”

Ijaya, whose real name is Onanuga, was born on December 2, 1965.

On the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket, she was initially elected to the house in 2019.

At the 9th assembly, Onanuga served as the chair of the house committee on social development and women’s affairs.

She was named the deputy chief whip of the 10th legislature following her reelection in 2023.

Rotimi stated that Onanuga, who is affectionately referred to as “Ijaya”—Rep.—was admired by both her colleagues and constituents for her intelligence, passion, humility, and quest for greatness.

Her significant contributions to Nigerian politics demonstrated her unwavering commitment to public service and her zeal for improving society.

Our deepest sympathies go out to her family, friends, coworkers, the Ogun State administration and populace, especially the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North constituency, and the whole National Assembly membership.

As we grieve the passing of this dynamic and devoted politician, whose life was dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Nigerians, particularly her constituents, her legacy of devotion and commitment will serve as an inspiration to generations to come.

In the 10th assembly, the green chamber has already lost four members as a result of her dying.
