The Atlantic Blue Hotel in Lekki Phase 1 has received a default notice and an intention-to-seal order from the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) for violating the state’s waste management laws.
Muyiwa Gbadegbesin, the Managing Director of LAWMA, made the announcement of the enforcement action in a statement on Thursday.
Gbadegbesin claims that the hotel violated Lagos State’s waste management regulations by neglecting to hire its designated Private Sector Participation (PSP) operator for appropriate waste collection and disposal.
To be clear, LAWMA would keep up its enforcement of waste management regulations that are meant to keep Lagos State clean and sustainable, Gbadegbesin stated.
Gbadegbesin added that the state’s waste management policy mandates that businesses collaborate with approved PSP operators.
This guarantees that garbage is gathered, appropriately disposed of, and processed in accordance with international environmental best practices, he said.
Additionally, LAWMA advises all Lagos citizens and businesses to adhere to waste management regulations by quickly hiring approved PSP operators and making on-time waste management bill payments. In addition to seriously endangering the environment and human health, non-compliance ruins the waste management process.
In order to prevent additional penalties, including as the closure of their facilities, Gbadegbesin asked the Atlantic Blue Hotel and other noncompliant organizations to promptly normalize their waste management plans.
“LAWMA is unwavering in its resolve to create a healthier, cleaner Lagos and will not hold back in enforcing adherence to its mission.”
“Please email us at [email protected] or call LAWMA customer service at 07080601020 with any questions or to confirm your assigned PSP operator.”
