Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has revealed that there are 15 cases of monkeypox confirmed in Nigeria and 59 suspected cases.
Chikwe disclosed this while reacting to the report of a United States resident testing positive for the disease after arriving the North-American country from Nigeria.
Revealing that the NCDC have been working with state health ministries to strengthen monkeypox disease surveillance and response in the country, Ihekweazu also disclosed that states with the highest number of cases are Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Lagos.
