President Bola Tinubu sent his deepest sympathies to the Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, its employees, and the families of those who died in the recent helicopter crash off the coast of Bonny Finima in Port-Harcourt.
In a statement released on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu told the families of the people who died that he “deeply sympathizes” with them and stands with them in their grief.
This was said in a statement called “President Tinubu Expresses Condolences to the NNPC Board and Families of Helicopter Victims in Port-Harcourt.”
After the terrible accident involving the East Winds Aviation helicopter with the registration number 5NBQG, Tinubu ordered a “intensification of search and rescue operations” to find any remaining passengers or evidence.
The helicopter was taking “contract staff” to the FPSO—NUIMS ANTAN facility when it crashed into the Atlantic on Thursday. It was hired by NNPC Limited.
Tinubu has “urged military officers involved in various operations in the zone to join the rescue mission” to make sure that everyone is on board. This will allow the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, and other important groups to work together on the recovery and investigation.
According to the statement, his directive shows that the government is committed to finding out what happened and giving those harmed peace of mind.
In his message to the families of the deceased, Tinubu said, “I fervently pray that the Almighty God will grant eternal rest to the three departed souls and comfort their families.” This quote shows how people felt after the incident.
Party to search
The Rivers State Police Command stated that a helicopter crashed in the Bonny axis of Rivers State on Thursday, killing the two crew members and six people who were inside.
Just as the police said, their marine section has started a search party with other agencies to find the plane and its passengers.
Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokeswoman for the state’s Police Command, said this in a statement sent to reporters on Thursday night from Port Harcourt.
According to another story, the military, the National Emergency Management Agency, and emergency locators started looking for the helicopter’s passengers right away.
The Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited workers were on board when the plane crashed into the ocean. As of the time this story was written, no one had yet been rescued alive.
Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, also confirmed the bad event to our reporter through a statement signed by Odutayo Oluseyi, the Head of Press and Public Relations for the ministry.
