On Wednesday, Mr. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe was removed at the council’s meeting as vice- chancellor.
At the council meeeting, which had atleast 11 council members , the VC included , majority of whom voted the VC out.
The meeting was chaired by the UNILAG Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of its Governing Council, Dr Wale Babalakin.
In a statement released and signed by Oladejo Azeez, the Registrar and Secretary to the Varsity Council,which was titled:
‘Notice To The General Public On The Removal Of The Vice-Chancellor Of The University Of Lagos’.
It reads:
“The general public is hereby notified that at an emergency meeting held on Wednesday, August 12 2020 and in accordance with the statutory powers vested in it by law, the Governing Council of the University of Lagos removed Prof. Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS from office as Vice-Chancellor of the University with immediate effect.
“The decision was based on the council’s investigation of serious acts of wrongdoing, gross misconduct, financial recklessness and abuse of office against Prof. Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS. ”
Mr Ogundipe was removed at the council’s meeting held Wednesday at the headquarters of the National Universities Commission, Abuja.
Mr Ogundipe was accused of financial impropriety and gross misconduct.
Mikhail Mumuni, the media adviser to chairman of the governing council, Wale Babalakin, confirmed the development to PREMIUM TIMES.
He, however, declined further comments, saying only the registrar of the university can provide details of the development.
