UPDATED: Following His Journey To Ghana And The Yuletide Break, Tinubu Returns To Abuja

After almost three weeks in Lagos, President Bola Tinubu is back in Abuja.

Around 9:30 p.m. (local time), the President and his personal assistants landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja aboard an Airbus A330.

Femi Gbajabiamila, Tinubu’s chief of staff, Nuhu Ribadu, his national security adviser, and other senior security officers welcomed him.

Earlier on Tuesday, he returned from Accra, Ghana, where he had been at President John Mahama’s inauguration.

When Tinubu was not in Abuja, he also traveled to Enugu State.

The President left Abuja for Lagos on December 18, 2024, and spent the Christmas and New Year holidays there.

His homecoming coincides with the Senate continuing to review the controversial Tax Reforms Bill and the 2025 Appropriations Bill, which he introduced three weeks ago.

Speaking about Tinubu’s trip to Ghana, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, emphasized the close personal and historical ties between Ghana and Nigeria.

The friendship that has existed between Tinubu and Mahama for more than 40 years was emphasized by Onanuga.

He pointed out that Ghana became independent first, then Nigeria, and that their shared past has strengthened their cultural and economic ties.

“The president’s friend is the new president of Ghana.” They’ve been acquainted for years. Second, the relationship between Ghana and Nigeria, which has existed for decades, is similar to that of Siamese twins. At least forty or fifty years ago.

Ghana was the first country to get independent, followed by Nigeria around three years later. The link between the two nations is quite old. We are held together by so many things. In order to maintain the friendly ties between Ghana and Nigeria, the President was in Ghana. “For the President, he was seeing a friend sworn in,” Onanuga said.

Citing the close personal ties between President Tinubu and Ghana’s new president, he further predicted that this relationship will grow stronger. According to him, this connection would make it easier to solve problems and might even lead to new opportunities between the two nations.

“I predict that the two nations’ relationship will continue to grow, much more so than it did under the previous leader. Given the human connection at play, I see us in this situation setting new standards under Mahama. “A lot of issues will be resolved,” he clarified.
