Durk Derrick Banks, better known as the famous Chicago rapper Lil Durk, is currently in Broward County Jail on federal charges, one of which is murder for hire.
His arrest was made by U.S. Marshals between late Thursday night and early Friday morning, NBC reported on Friday.
Five members of Lil Durk’s Chicago-based crew, Only The Family (OTF), have been charged as co-conspirators in a Los Angeles murder-for-hire plan at the same time that he was arrested.
It’s still not clear if Durk’s arrest has anything to do with the investigation that’s still going on, but the timing has gotten a lot of attention.
CBS says that the charges against Durk have something to do with a plan that killed rapper Quando Rondo’s cousin in 2022.
Investigators think that the claimed plot was a way to get back at those who killed Chicago rapper King Von earlier.
Five people with ties to Durk’s music business were linked to the crime just hours before he was arrested.
The Daily Mail said that rapper Lil Durk was arrested over a “murder-for-hire plot” hours after five people were charged with having a connection to the shooting of Quando Rondo’s cousin.
According to these stories, Lil Durk was arrested in Broward County, Florida, on Thursday night. He is now waiting to be taken into custody by U.S. Marshals.
The five people accused of being members of the OTF were charged by a U.S. District Court in Los Angeles with a number of major crimes, including plotting to kill for money, killing for money, and using a machine gun in a violent crime that killed someone.
Due to his work with Drake on “Laugh Now Cry Later” and J. Cole on “All My Life,” both of which reached No. 2 on the Billboard chart, Lil Durk has had a big effect on the music business.
“Laugh Now Cry Later,” one of his songs, won him a Grammy in 2024 for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
