Why, After killing Hamas’s Sinwar, Netanyahu Won’t Allow Israel To Cease Fighting

The Israeli prime minister has taken advantage of every chance to intensify the conflict and thwart any potential ceasefires.

Lebanon’s Beirut In a surprising shooting in Rafah on Wednesday, Israeli forces killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in action.

Western pundits expressed some optimism that the killing might be a sign that the war in Gaza or possibly the larger Israel-Palestine conflict is coming to an end.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, however, would look for other excuses to keep his nation at war for his own benefit and to pursue Israel’s expansionist goal of driving out the Palestinians and occupying their territories indefinitely, analysts told Al Jazeera.

Netanyahu’s concerns

Because he might be imprisoned for several years, Netanyahu has long feared losing power.

He faced charges in three different cases in 2019: breach of trust, bribery, and fraud. He might be imprisoned for up to ten years if found guilty.

Netanyahu allegedly gave gifts and favors to media moguls in return for favorable press coverage.
