Arsenal Players Walking Suspension Tightrope Ahead Festive Fixtures

Arsenal player with the most yellow cards across the squad this season

Arsenal player with the most yellow cards across the squad this season is captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on three directly followed by Gabriel Magalhaes, Bukayo Saka, and Martin Odegaard who are all on two yellow cards each.

With three more game weeks until the cut-off point, the aforementioned quartet are also suspension risks as they can still accumulate five yellow cards before the 19th game of the season is played.

Cedric Soares, Benjamin White, Nuno Tavares, and Xhaka are among those on one yellow card, so can all relax over the next few weeks as the maximum number of yellow cards they can pick up before the cut-off point is four.

Aside from the above-listed players, Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga is also walking the disciplinary tightrope.

This has been the case since the Gunners returned to Premier League action following the international break in November as the Belgium international was booked during the 1-0 win over Watford.

To Lokonga’s credit, he has been on his best behavior in the three appearances he’s made, timing his tackles to perfection and showing no dissent towards the officials.

Even when he struggled at the start of the second half against Liverpool, the midfielder still managed to steer clear of another yellow card and was also helped that Mikel Arteta took him off soon after.

However, with Lokonga avoiding another booking in games against Liverpool, Newcastle United, and then Southampton, it means he is one of five Arsenal players who are walking the suspension tightrope.

As confirmed by the FA at the beginning of the season, any player who accumulates five bookings before the cut-off point of 19 matches will have to serve an automatic one-match ban.

With 16 games of the season gone, Lokonga and the rest of Arteta’s Premier League squad have another three-game week to avoid a suspension.

Therefore if he is booked against West Ham it will rule him out of the Leeds United clash three days later.

As a result, Arteta has a big decision to make.

Does he start Lokonga against the Hammers, thus running the risk of the Belgium international picking up another yellow card that would rule him out of making the trip to Elland Road?.
