In Anambra, A Well-Known Native Doctor Was Arrested.

Local vigilante group Agunechemba has arrested a well-known famous native doctor, also known as Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki n’Oba.

A brief video released on Facebook on Saturday by Anambra State New Media verified his detention.

The indigenous physician was captured on Saturday in the state’s Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.

“Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki n’Oba has been detained for additional investigation by the security agency and denies Okeite,” the tweet stated.

According to sources, the traditional leader was brought to Dr. Onyeka Ibezim’s office, the deputy governor, to be questioned.

A video that has gone viral on social media claims that the deputy governor asked him questions.

Akwa Okuko denied any role with “Oke Ite” while being questioned.

“Oke Ite” translates to “big pot” in Igbo.

“I haven’t performed “Oke Ite” in a long time. There’s nothing charming about that. Because we put it in a pot, we simply called it “Oke Ite,” he said.

“We need to take him to where he does these things,” the deputy governor retorted. We will look into him, and naturally, we must find out where he engages in these activities.

Akwa Okuko has recently made headlines.

He was abducted by gunmen in July 2023 and held captive for a few days before a ransom was purportedly paid to free him.

Additionally, he is accused of making charms for kidnappers who pose as online scammers in order to terrorize the government.

The Anambra State Homeland Security Law was enacted in 2025 by the government of Governor Charles Soludo in an effort to curb criminal activity in the area.
