Manchester United’s Executives Support Erik Ten Hag In Spite Of Tottenham’s “Unacceptable” Loss

The Premier League saw Manchester United lose to Tottenham 3-0 at home on Sunday. Although the club’s management found the outcome disappointing, Erik ten Hag is still the board’s preferred manager, and there are no urgent plans to replace him.

Although everyone agrees that the team’s lackluster performance in the 3-0 loss to Tottenham was unacceptable, Sky Sports News knows that the hierarchy’s current priorities are to help the Dutchman, his backroom team, and the players turn their fortunes around.

Ten Hag will stay in place for the difficult matches against Porto and Aston Villa, which will be live on Sky Sports on Sunday, ahead of the international break. Ten Hag’s tenure is under increasing pressure, since over £600 million has been spent on hiring since his arrival.

The crushing at the hands of Tottenham on Sunday was the team’s second straight 3-0 home league loss in the league, following Liverpool’s resounding victory over United.

Internally, there was optimism prior to the team’s surrender to Spurs, believing that both their offensive and defensive analytics were improving, with the main area of concern being the lack of a clinical edge.

But Ten Hag’s old tendencies of not applying enough pressure to the ball and being so easy to play against are coming back, which makes him more vulnerable.

The loss on Sunday exposed the weaknesses that have United sitting in 12th position in the standings after six games played and six points outside of the Champions League spots.

Only 19th-place Southampton has struggled to find the net more than Ten Hag’s team this season; they have failed to score in three of their last four league games.

It culminates in one more crucial week of the manager’s employment. With just one victory in the last nine continental games under his leadership, United’s record on the continent is dismal, making the journey to Porto intimidating.

For a team lacking confidence, Unai Emery’s Villa, who are currently on a four-game league unbeaten streak, will present a difficult challenge.

On several occasions, most notably in the summer after winning the FA Cup, his second trophy with the team, Ten Hag has saved his career and avoided the firing chopping block.

Following a review, United spoke with Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Frank, Roberto De Zerbi, Kieran McKenna, and Thomas Tuchel over the potential of Thomas Tuchel taking over as manager.

Following a two-and-a-half-week procedure, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford decided to remain with Ten Hag, activating the option in his contract that would have extended it by an additional year.

United’s open communication with other contenders created the impression that the team did not fully support Ten Hag, which was a surefire way to put pressure on his leadership at challenging moments in this season.

Though CEO Omar Berrada and sports director Dan Ashworth were not engaged in the decision to keep the manager following a season evaluation, United’s top team emphasized he was the appropriate man for the job ahead of the side’s home loss to Liverpool at the beginning of the month.

Ten Hag stated on Sunday that he had no worries about the future. “No, I am not thinking about this,” he replied.

In the summer, we all decided to stick together as a leadership group and as an ownership.

Additionally, we decided how to assemble a team and what areas of our organization still needed improvement after conducting a thorough analysis.

“However, given how the window went and some players, like [Manuel] Ugarte, entering late, we knew it would take some time. We still need time to heal from some of our injuries, and we also need to enhance our organization.

“The ownership, the leadership team, the employees, and the players are all in the same boat or on the same page. That is not a concern of mine.”
