In major cities in Ogun State such as Abeokuta, Ijebu-ode, Sagamu, Ota, Ifo, Mowe and Ibafo, environmental offenders were arrested and prosecuted by the State Environmental Health Personnel and the Nigerian Police Command Ogun State for dumping refuse on the road and in canals which blocks and obstructs waterways thereby causing flood in the state.
However, Mr Ola Oresanya, The Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment and Head of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority OGWAMA urged all residents of the State to comply and observe all rules that govern the state on waste management to avoid being arrested and prosecuted, as this would serve as a deterrent to others.
The State Government said they arrested the offenders because it was against the Law of the state, all offenders pleaded guilty and were fined btw N5,000 to N10,000 each depending on the level of offence.
