Victor Boniface, a striker for the Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen, tweeted his happiness at participating in his first Champions League game during his team’s 4-0 victory over Feyenoord on Thursday.
In a post published on Friday that was taken from Fabrizio Romano’s X account, Boniface looked back on his life’s path and recalled how, as a young football player, he used to pay N30 to watch Champions League matches. Now, he is participating in the same competition, fulfilling a lifelong ambition.
“I watched the Champions League for 30 naira and played my first Champions League game,” he stated. I’m proud of this time.
It’s important to remember that in 2023, the German team paid around €21.7 million to sign Boniface from Union SG to Bayer Leverkusen.
In an attempt to retain the Bundesliga title they won the previous year and break Bayern Munich’s record of 11 straight league wins, Leverkusen will play host to Wolfsburg on Sunday.
