Seven members of the same family, including three children, were shot and killed in an execution-style incident at their rural South African home by unidentified shooters on Thursday, according to authorities.
According to authorities, a five-year-old kid was among the victims of the late-night shooting at a farmhouse in the eastern state of KwaZulu-Natal. They claimed that the oldest victim was a woman in her mid-55s.
The attack’s motivation was unknown at the time it occurred in the Highflats region, some 80 kilometers (50 miles) northwest of the seaside city of Durban.
As a police unit, we firmly believe that it was an execution. Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the provincial police commissioner, told reporters outside the residence that “it was a planned murder.”
“It looked like a few of the victims were shot in the head while lying down. About twenty-five bullets were used in total, he claimed.
The family was watching television when the gunmen broke into the house. One family member who was outside the house was forced to knock on the door, and as soon as it was opened, they opened fire.
One of the highest per capita homicide rates in the world occurs in peacetime in South Africa.
August police records show that between April and June, around 6,200 individuals were killed throughout the nation.
