Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo has praised the bravery and patriotism of the fallen heroes in protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and promised his administration’s unshakable support for their families.
Following the laying of wreaths at the World War I and II Cenotaph in Lokoja on Wednesday, Ododo made this promise during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.
He emphasized the importance of Armed Forces Remembrance Day, characterizing it as a moment to commemorate and consider the military’s contributions to the development of the country.
The governor reiterated his government’s dedication to helping the families of dead heroes and providing for veterans who distinguished themselves while serving Nigeria.
Additionally, he urged Nigerians to work together to maintain the peace that the current government has established.
Ododo declared that widows and children of slain heroes will be immediately enrolled in the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme, which offers free health insurance coverage.
He also urged cooperation in creating a country deserving of the sacrifices made by injured officers and military personnel in Kogi State, promising continued assistance for them.
We commemorate our brave heroes who sacrificed their lives to defend Nigeria’s sovereignty and allow us to live in peace, and we ask Almighty Allah to pardon their transgressions.
We honor them for their commitment to peace, harmony, and optimism.
“By offering free healthcare through the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme, I firmly stand behind the wives and children of our fallen heroes and pledge my continued support to the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he stated.
President Bola Tinubu’s emphasis on peace and security as part of his administration’s renewed hope agenda was also praised by Governor Ododo.
The governor, military commanders, traditional rulers, and representatives of army veterans paid their respects to the fallen heroes during the event’s customary wreath-laying ceremony.
The event honored Nigeria’s fallen heroes who gave their lives in the Nigerian Civil War, World Wars I and II, and peacekeeping operations, among other military engagements.
