Martins Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan or VDM, is supposed to go to court today to answer charges of imitation.
The charges come from a recent video that went popular and showed VeryDarkMan wearing an NPF uniform “without permission.”
In the newly released video, VeryDarkMan called himself CSP VeryDarkMan and Nigeria’s “number one online police officer.” This was seen as bad behavior by the NPF.
In a post on its X account on Friday, the Nigeria Police Force said this.
The press statement says that the FCT Police Command is leading the prosecution and stresses that the force is committed to protecting the integrity of its uniforms and stopping people from using them without permission.
The public is asked to keep up with the case as it moves through the court system.
The Nigeria Police Force said in a statement, “Martins Otse is scheduled to appear in court today following claims of impersonation related to the illegal use of Nigeria Police Force uniforms in a social media video that went viral.”
“The FCT Police Command is actively working on the case. This shows that the Nigeria Police Force is dedicated to protecting the integrity of its symbols and stopping people from abusing them.”
“People who are interested are encouraged to keep up with the case as it develops.”
Also, VeryDarkMan was arrested by police on Thursday after he responded to a formal summons.
VDM’s crime wasn’t explained, but his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, said in a post on X on Thursday that he was being held.
Adeyanju went on to say that his client had accepted a similar offer on Wednesday.
The title of his post said, “Our client, VDM, has been detained after following through on a police invitation, just like yesterday.” VDM has always said that the Nigerian Police are our friends, even though we all know that they are not.
