According To An Official, NNPCL Is a Significant Contribution To Nigeria’s Power Generation.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited emphasized its continuous efforts to promote and improve the country’s energy sector on Tuesday, stating that it has grown to be a significant contributor to the Nigerian electricity supply industry.

This was revealed by Olufemi Soneye, its chief corporate communications officer, at a NNPCL workshop and engagement session with a few Kannywood artists in Abuja.

As one of the main suppliers to the national grid, NNPC Ltd. is important to Nigeria’s energy security, he stated. Our investments in important facilities demonstrate our dedication to electricity generating.

“At the moment, we run the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant, a fully owned establishment that supplies the area with vital electricity.”Afam VI and Okpai 1 & 2, two significant power plants with a combined installed capacity of 1,132 megawatts, are also co-owned by us.

He asserts that the facilities are essential to guaranteeing a steady supply of electricity to residences, companies, and industries nationwide.

Imagine if vandals were to harm or destroy these vital assets, Soneye added. The economy would be severely impacted, businesses would suffer, and entire communities would be left in the dark.

“For this reason, we need your voices to spread the word: Protecting our national resources is protecting our future!”
He asserts that the NNPCL wants to improve national security in order to promote energy growth and sustainability.

“The goal of the engagement was to seek Kannywood’s partnership in creating skits that would educate the public on the importance of refraining from vandalizing the country’s energy infrastructure,” he said, encouraging the artists to spread awareness about protecting the country’s energy assets.

You are strong influences whose voices mold public opinion; you are more than just performers. For this reason, I am urging you to utilize your positions today to promote the safeguarding of our national resources, especially those under the control of NNPC Ltd.

“Vandalism of critical infrastructure—including oil and gas pipelines, power plants, and energy installations—poses a severe threat to our economy, national security, and overall development,” Soneye stated, tasked them with spearheading a campaign against vandalism.

“Each of us has a responsibility to educate the public about the risks associated with such behavior. You have the power to spread this word because you are well-respected members of the community.

He thanked Christopher Musa for his assistance in the fight against vandalism, as well as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer, and Malam Mele Kyari, Chief of Defense Staff.

The management team of NNPC Ltd., led by Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari, has taken strategic measures that have greatly improved the security of our national assets and produced outcomes that have never been witnessed in the industry before.

“The visionary leadership and steadfast backing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the Federal Republic of Nigeria have enabled these accomplishments.
He said, “We also want to express our sincere gratitude to the Chief of Defence Staff, the military, and all law enforcement agencies for their hard work and dedication in protecting our country’s vital infrastructure.”

NNPC has discovered 12 new illicit pipeline connections in a single week, according to Murtala Mohammed, Deputy Manager of Upstream Investment Management Services at the company’s Command and Control Center.

Nigeria’s oil production capacity, which stands at 1.7 billion barrels per day, has been severely hampered by the oil theft.
Mohammed claims that while some of the stolen crude is shipped outside the nation, the majority is refined inside.

According to him, 1,467 trucks carrying stolen crude oil have been found, and 2,849 people have been taken into custody in relation to oil theft.

Additionally, the business claimed to have fixed 3,100 pipelines that had been vandalized.
Mohammed provided more information, stating that as of February 10, 2025, there are 9,332 illicit refineries throughout the nation, while 7,015 illicit links have been dismantled.
