Isese: According To Ooni of Ife, Oluwo Pursued Me When I Went To See Him.

Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, has disclosed that he was ejected from his palace upon visiting Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo.

This was revealed by the monarch in a TikTok video that went viral on Sunday.

“Oluwo chased me out like a child when I visited him, and ever since then, I have always maintained myself going close to him,” the Ooni of Ife claimed. What if he does what he wants to me now that you people (attendees) are pleading with me to go see him again?

Despite the fact that I am a young person sitting on the elders’ throne, I must control his excesses as an elder. I greet you, Oluwo.

Findings showed that Oluwo has not been happy with Ogunwunsi’s relationship and actions with the traditionalists, whom he referred to as “idols worshippers,” despite the fact that Ogunwunsi did not discuss any rivalry between him and Oluwo of Iwo in the widely shared video. Both monarchs are revered in Osun State.

Another video showed Akanbi, also known as Telu 1, asking the residents of Iwo to avoid traditional customs and advising those who engage in them to do so at home.

As a king, it is my responsibility to defend God and speak only about him, opposing those who worship other deities. I don’t participate in any idol festivals or Ogun. I shall never again celebrate the Egungun festival with the devotees, despite the fact that I have done so in the past. However, they do not refer to it as idolatry. Since I oppose their actions, their business practices don’t flourish here.

Furthermore, you are unable to make sacrifices in Iwo here. That will be eaten by whoever does it. Even better, scatter the sacrifices across your home. To stop problems like that, environmental sanitation has been implemented here. Anyone who wants to succeed must confront the idols and those who worship them. You would be a soldier of God only for that,” he continued.

Oluwo went on to explain in his Facebook post on Monday that Iwo was once controlled by a traditional monarch but has since stopped being so since Oba Memudu Ayinla Lamuye came to power in 1800 and converted the entire Iwo population to Islam.

Oba Ibirinade Abioye Adekanbi (Alawusa) introduced Islam in 1600, he wrote. He moved idols out of the area and transformed a place of worship into the Oluwo Central Mosque. Specifically, in 1600, he established the first mosque in South Western Nigeria. Oba Memudu Ayinla Lamuye (pictured above), another Oluwo, converted the entire Iwo people to Islam later in the 1800s. As a result, every compound in Iwo has a mosque, and no Iwo native—not even those who were new converts when the missionaries arrived—does not have a Muslim name.

Because of his hospitality, Oba Ibirinade Adekanbi was also known as Alawusa. He provided housing for Malians who were later referred to as Hausa and settled in Iwo. Oluwo wore a turban. Prior to 1600, New Oluwo was crowned with a beaded crown. Prior to donning the beaded crown, turbans were worn after 1600. Oba Muhammad Ayinla Lamuye ruled for ninety years. The current Oluwo was crowned to carry on the noble work of the previous rulers precisely a century later.

Remember how Akanbi said in 2018 that Ogunwusi told his bodyguard to shove him aside at a gathering of traditional leaders in the capital of Rivers State, Port Harcourt?

Akanbi claims that the incident took place in the city’s oil-rich Hotel Presidential.

According to him, it occurred right before the Ooni was called to the podium for a vote of gratitude.

“During the public gathering of the first-class paramount rulers held at the Presidential Hotel, Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, last Tuesday, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife’s bodyguard, pushed Oluwo in what appeared to be an errand message,” Akanbi claimed in a statement.

When the Ooni’s bodyguard shoved Oluwo, a first-class paramount ruler, the dignitaries at the celebration were shocked by what they saw as a desecration of the crown.

But the Ooni denied the allegation in a statement that the director of public affairs at his palace, Moses Olafare, issued on his behalf.

Ogunwunsi described the claims of the Oluwo as untrue, saying, “There was no altercation between Oluwo and anybody at that venue at all.”
