Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South, has requested that the upper house of parliament back Uchenna, the late congressman Ifeanyi Ubah’s widow, to succeed him.
Ndume gave a speech at the Senate’s valedictory session on Tuesday in remembrance of the late senator from Anambra South.
The 52-year-old congressman passed away in July.
In order to maintain Ubah’s “legacy and aspirations,” Ndume advised his colleagues that his wife should take over as senator.
“This has previously occurred. “His wife, Margery, joined the senate and continued the legacy of great politician Chuba Okadigbo after his death,” he said.
In a similar vein, Oluremi Tinubu, our first lady, served in this chamber with the help of her husband, a former governor, and the goodwill of Lagosians. She actually told me that being a preacher was her dream.
Ndume claimed that by joining the Senate, Abdulaziz Yar’Adua continued the political legacy of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
As you may recall, General Obasanjo’s daughter is Senator (Iyabo) Obasanjo. Dafinone is seated in front of me; his father was an excellent senator.
I want to make a plea to you, Mr. President, that we preserve Ifeanyi’s spirit and goals.
Thankfully, his wife, who is about fifty years old, has been a great source of support for him.
Lastly, Mr. President, I would like to make a request of you and your esteemed colleagues: thankfully, his wife is about fifty years old. An amazing wife.
When Anambra of the senatorial district that Ifeanyi represents is elected, let’s help the family have a spirit representative of Ifeanyi present in the chamber.
“This will guarantee continuity and honor for the senatorial district of Anambra South.”
BEING A SENATE MEMBER
Membership in the Senate is neither a given nor a transferable privilege.
A person can only be elected to the senate, as stated in section 65 of the 1999 Constitution.
If an individual has completed school or its equivalent, is a member of a political party, and is supported by that party, they are eligible to run for office.
