The $115 Million Enhanced W/Africa Container Terminal Is Opened By Shettima

West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) in Onne, Rivers State, had a thorough $115 million improvement project that was formally inaugurated on Wednesday by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

This enormous investment confirms Nigeria’s status as a major trading hub in West Africa and highlights APM Terminals’ steadfast commitment to the country’s economic development.

APM Terminals confirms its position as a major force in boosting international trade and generating opportunity for people throughout Nigeria and West Africa with this enormous improvement.

Several dignitaries attended the inauguration ceremony, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, who was represented by Professor Babatunde Bolaji Bernard, his Senior Adviser (Technical); the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, who was represented by Mr. Olufemi Oloruntola, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry; Mr. Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Mr. Adewale Adeniyi; the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), who was represented by the Executive Director Marine and Operations, Engr. Olalekan Badmus; Barrister Pius Akutah, the Executive Secretary/CEO of Nigerian Shippers’ Council, and the Managing Director of the Oil & Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA), Alhaji Bamanga Usman Jada, among several others.

The Vice President, accompanied by the Office of the Vice President’s Personal Assistant to the President on Subnational Infrastructure, Musaddiq Mustapha, praised APM Terminals for its significant investment in WACT and gave the company assurances that the Federal Government will continue to create an environment that is conducive to business success.

He said that the port’s service delivery will be significantly improved and more vessels will visit as a result of the $115 million investment in the WACT upgrade.

“There are many chances in Nigeria. By investing in WACT, APM Terminals is demonstrating its unwavering dedication to building ports that are essential to international trade. The Vice President continued, saying, “Nigeria will continue working with APM Terminals in the long run to create an environment where businesses participating in global trade can thrive.”

The renovation project demonstrates APM Terminals’ goal of raising Nigerian standards for effectiveness, dependability, and regional distinction.

It includes a substantial extension of the yard, the purchase of cutting-edge machinery, and the construction of a contemporary office complex, among other wide-ranging changes. Turnaround time will be greatly lowered by new Mobile Harbour Cranes (MHC), Rubber Tyre Gantries (RTG), and sophisticated Cargo Handling Equipment (CHE). By revolutionizing efficiency at the dock, yard, and gate, an exceptional operating model sets new standards for service delivery.
