In 2019 there was an imposed limit of 5 forwarded messages on watsapp, however Watsapp is set to impose a new limit from five to one in a bid to curtail fake news.
The company acknowledged that not all forwarded mesages are bad especially now that the whole world connects mostly via watsapp and calls due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, it claims that a lot of fake news has and are also been circulated during this times.
”We are now introducing a limit so that these messages can only be forwarded to one chat at a time.
“As a private messaging service, we’ve taken several steps over the years to help keep conversations intimate. For example, we previously set limits on forwarded messages to constrain virality. At the time, we saw a 25 per cent decrease in total message forwards globally
“In recent weeks, people have also used WhatsApp to organise public moments of support for frontline health workers.
“In addition to this change, we are working directly with NGOs and governments, including the World Health Organisation and over 20 national health ministries, to help connect people with accurate information.”
