A Businessman From Ibadan Went To The OPay Office To Repair The PoS. They Seized It

Michael Okusanya, a businessman in Ibadan, Oyo State, has recounted how the OPay staff at their office on Ring Road, Ibadan, misplaced his MTN SIM card and treated him unjustly when he visited their office on October 21 to resolve an issue.

Okusanya disclosed to FIJ that his sole objective was to deactivate his wife’s account from his PoS machine and establish a connection to his own account, which he had acquired the machine for but had not yet utilized as a result of a BVN issue.

He stated that a staff member informed him that they would need to remove the PoS machine, despite the absence of a valid reason, when he visited their office as requested.

At the time of purchase in 2022, OPay had assured Okusanya that the device would remain with him unless he opted to return it.

“However, I was unwilling to return it.” I merely intended to transfer the original account number intended for the PoS to the machine and remove my wife’s account, which had been blocked at the time. Okusanya stated, “They requested it during my visit to their office, and I provided it to them.”

“When they said they had to keep it with them, I inquired about the reason, but I did not receive a response.” Rather, one of them forcibly seized it. Subsequently, I encountered Giwa Dayo, who directed me to Adebimpe and Miss Kunfayo. Regrettably, these personnel subjected me to mistreatment, even restraining me from retaining the PoS.

“Despite informing the manager of this, he stated that he was unable to take any action.” I find it unacceptable that he then offered me an analogue PoS, as I paid the complete price for the original device.

To exacerbate the situation, Okusanya stated that the MTN SIM card that was encased in the PoS machine that was taken from him has now disappeared. He stated that he contacted the office when he remembered that his SIM card was still in it, but they denied that it was present.

After recognizing that he had been treated unjustly on the same day, he contacted OPay via email; however, the fintech company had not yet responded.

At press time, OPay had not responded to FIJ’s email that requested comments on the matter on Thursday.
