By next year, all Nigerians should have access to and be able to purchase solar energy, according to the federal government.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, the director-general and CEO of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, made this claim.
He pointed out that Nigeria must produce 40,000 megawatts in order to have the same reliable power supply as other developed countries.
As you are aware, just 5,000 megawatts of Nigeria’s 12,000 megawatt installed capacity reach the populace. To meet the nation’s energy needs and have the kind of steady power that other industrialized countries have, we need 40,000 megawatts.
To solve the nation’s energy problems and guarantee that every Nigerian has access to electricity, we have already launched a national energy master plan.
“To give Nigerians access to reasonably priced solar electricity, we will set up a facility that manufactures solar panels and batteries. I promise Nigerians that we will accomplish this by the next year.
He went on to say that in order to close the gap in the power industry, the government has founded a Renewable Energy College.
“In order to close the gap in the power sector and support government initiatives, we have started building Renewable Energy College, where we will provide free energy education.”
Nigeria is currently experiencing an energy crisis as a result of the national grid’s frequent failures.
The national grid went down three times in a week, according to a Daily Trust article.
