Sales Rep Of A Popular Pharmaceutical Company Fakes His Kidnap To See If Company Would Clear His Debt

A sales representative identified as Chikezie Precious, 25 who works for a very Popular Pharmaceutical Company has been arrested by Operatives of the Anti-kidnapping And Cybercrime Unit of the Edo State Police Command for faking his own kidnap in a bid to see if the company would clear his debt.

According to reports, Chikezie has been a staff of this company for three years and was in charge of supplying drugs to most states in Southern Nigeria.

However, due to the debt he owed the company which was about N900,000 he faked his own kidnap by raising false alarm that he was kidnapped on the road.

While returning from Auchi to Benin, he abandoned the company vehicle and the keys along Ewohimi-Agbor road, and took a public transport to Benin where he lodged.

He then contacted the company informing them that he was kidnapped. The company in turn informed the nearest police Station to where the van was abandoned.

The Police then involved the office of the Anti Kidnapping And Cybercrime Unit of the Edo state police command for further investigation.

In the process, Chikezie was traced to the hotel where he lodged, and speaking to Festus Alenkhe, the crime correspondent, he said:

“I owe my company over N900,000, and they have been disturbing me to pay back. After too much stress, l decided to fake my kidnapping to see if they could write off the debt for me. I lodged in the hotel at Ikpoba Hill in Benin city and asked my friend to call my boss to announce my kidnapping.”

Confirming his arrest, spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Bello Kontongs said that the suspect will be charged to court on completion of the investigation. 

“The suspect will be thoroughly investigated, profiled and charge to court.”
